New Year Letter from our President

Happy New Year to you and yours and what a great 2010 this is going to be!!!

Based on all projections, all industry data, and our own enthusiasm in this business, this is going to be a year filled with great business, positive memories, and one even potentially for the record books. Leads are climbing, sales are increasing, and business seems to be flowing again. What are you doing to “Imagineer Your Business” to keep up with what may now be a prime opportunity for you to grow, further develop, and succeed at an entirely new level?

If you haven’t read this past issue of Speaker Magazine, I encourage to review the guidance from Terry Paulson in his article about industry research and work toward not Imagineering your own business and the facts that drive it, but that of your clients and customers. We are the experts they come to for guidance, advice, and counsel of what is needed in the way of speaking and training at their events.

We are also the ones they come to on occasion for entertainment! And not just the funny comedian on stage, but the one who helps them not take life and work so darned seriously. Who couldn’t use a little more humor in their world? In fact, have you ever heard the phrase “You don’t have to be funny as a speaker/trainer… unless you want to get paid!” In my experience that sure seems to hold true and that is exactly why I will be listening closely at this upcoming “HumorPalooza” meeting on January 16th. If you haven’t made plans to attend or RSVP’d online, now is the time. Yes, it’s fun to be funny and add more humor, but it will also seriously impact your business! Two good reasons to join us.

So, whether you are guest, a member, an associate, or affiliate of our chapter, ring in the New Year with renewed enthusiasm, renewed commitment, the visits with old friends, and a whole new boost in your material… all while sharing a few laughs! RSVP today and I look forward to seeing you there!

REGISTER at www.nsacentralflorida.com

Remember our Chapter Meeting is from 9am-12:30pm and our

Afternoon “Brain Branding” Workshop 1:30 -4pm *go to our website for more details and to register for this unique opportunity too!

10 Social Media Tips

Whether you’re just jumping in or you’re honing your strategy, here are some things you can do:

1) Use what you know. Answer questions on places like LinkedIn (www.LinkedIn.com) and Twitter (www.Twitter.com), or on niche sites.

Think you don’t have expertise? EVERYONE has expertise.

Want to find yours?

-Think of questions your customers and prospects ask you all the time-there’s your expertise.

-Think of your hobbies and interests-more expertise.

2) How do you find those questions? On LinkedIn, you can search among the questions being asked. To find questions to answer on Twitter, go to http://Search.Twitter.com and search on keywords to find the conversations.

3) Look for people like you. The homophily principle is one of the most basic, but powerful social networking principles there is: we’re attracted to people who are similar to us.

That means we’re attracted to people who have similar interests, jobs, hobbies, etc. So if you want to make connections in social media, look for people who have children of similar ages, enjoy your hobbies, live in your local area-the list of possibilities is virtually endless.

4) To find these people, do keyword searches within sites, or at places such as http://Search.Twitter.com. So search on scuba or spin or whatever you like, to find OTHERS who have those same interests.

5) Once you find people who have similar interests or characteristics, you’ve got common ground on which to build. Strike up a conversation with them.

Once you get that conversation going, use our next 3, MOST IMPORTANT tips to make the most of it and start a relationship:

6) Ask questions-lots of them!

7) LISTEN to the answers and to the conversations that emerge. As you do, you’ll find LOTS of opportunities to make connections. And you’ll learn lots.

8) “Give to get.” The best way to start a relationship with someone is to give something-advice, resources, links, referrals, anything that might be useful.

9) To be sure you have a constant stock of info, tips, and links to provide to others, make the most of Google Alerts. Set up alerts on keywords related to your business, industry, or interests. Scan them daily and you’ll have a host of things about which to post and tweet.

10) Remember the most important principle: Making connections online, harnessing the power of social media isn’t that different from interacting offline. All the rules, all the basics of making connections with other people, and all the basics of respectful communication apply here, just as much as they do at the Chamber of Commerce meeting.

Mastermind – Want to Join One?

Thinking about joining a Mastermind group?

If you have a desire to join or create a new Mastermind group , please submit your name & contact info to our chapter administrator, Nancy Montgomery.  If you have particular questions related to the whole concept of Mastermind groups and what they can do to help you as a professional, then contact Frank Trunzo, our Chapter President Elect,  at Ftrunzo@tampabay.rr.com.

The names of all those interested desiring to form new Mastermind groups will be available at the next chapter meeting on Nov. 21st.  It will then be up to YOU to reach out to others on the group and determine if you want to create a Mastermind group with them.

We urge you to seriously consider this opportunity, as a Mastermind Group can be an excellent way to strengthen your skills and knowledge as a speaker.  Committing yourself to a Mastermind Group is your opportunity to discuss your particular issues and needs related to growing  your speaking business, and it is a way to challenge others to grow as you hold one another accountable to stated goals.  Some of the NSACF members have been in their own Mastermind Group for years and have found the professional relationships formed to be of tremendous value.  The successful Mastermind groups tend to be small in size (4-5 members); tend to meet on a monthly basis; and tend to meet at homes or offices of their own choosing.  At all times,  it is up to the members of the group to decide the focus and direction they wish to take, to decide what the group will do at each of their meetings,  and how often they want to meet.    Think about it and let us know if you are interested!
